RETREATS
----------- A small bla-bla-bla about Retreats HERE ----------
A retreat with room to arrive
Bring a small group together in a family-run lodge where nature, space, simplicity and a slower pace support the purpose of the retreat. Mangrove Lodge offers a quieter base in Chuini, within easy reach of Stone Town and the wider island.
A setting that holds the group
Ten rooms across five garden bungalows give a group a shared home without losing the personal scale of the lodge. Between sessions, guests can move between the garden, pool, coast, beach dining areas and quieter corners of the property.
Retreats shaped around the purpose
Mangrove Lodge can support yoga and wellbeing retreats, creative programmes, learning and professional groups, and retreats centred on nature or culture. Cooking, local music, history and selected use of Sultan Barghash’s Palace can be added where they serve the group’s purpose.

Space to settle
The garden’s generous scale gives guests privacy, natural shade beneath mature mango trees and space to find a quiet corner. The sea-view pool, terrace and changing coast leave room for slow mornings and unhurried returns after a day out.

Spaces for particular needs
The indoor seminar room is confirmed for up to 30 people. The existing website also lists natural light, ventilation, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a projector, terrace access, catering support, a thatched space overlooking the bay, the pool deck and a multifunctional indoor room.
Sultan Barghash’s Palace can form part of selected retreat programmes. The new page must show only spaces that are currently available, with confirmed capacities, equipment, access, permissions and weather alternatives.
Stay and eat together
A residential retreat can bring accommodation, sessions and meals into one place. The lodge has double and twin rooms, two Family Rooms and extra beds for triple occupancy. Exact room allocation will depend on the group and current availability.
Fresh meals can be planned around the group, drawing on local ingredients and suppliers where possible. Vegetarian and vegan options are already available, and dietary or allergy requirements should be discussed early so the kitchen can confirm what can be prepared safely.
Support beyond the sessions
The team can coordinate airport or ferry transfers, island excursions, locally led activities and local yoga teachers. Availability, partners and costs will be confirmed for the group’s dates.
Connected to place
Where it serves the purpose of the retreat, organisers can work with local teachers, guides, cooks, makers and activity providers. Each option will be agreed with the people involved, with clear roles, costs and consent.
Final invitation
Tell us when you hope to come and who you are travelling with. We will help you plan a stay with the right balance of rest, discovery and time by the sea.
How the enquiry works
To prepare a useful proposal, share your preferred dates and flexibility, the purpose of the retreat, group size, room needs, programme outline, required spaces or equipment, food needs, transfers, activities and approximate budget.
What group size can Mangrove Lodge host?
The seminar room and residential accommodation are confirmed for groups of up to 30 people. Exact room allocation and availability depend on the dates and whether the lodge is operating exclusively for the group.
The retreat proposal will confirm the room plan, programme spaces and exclusive-use arrangements for the organiser’s dates.
Can the lodge be booked exclusively?
Please ask about exclusive use, minimum stay, pricing, deposits and cancellation terms for your dates. These arrangements should be confirmed directly with Mangrove Lodge.
Can Mangrove Lodge help with teachers, transport and activities?
The existing offer includes support with local yoga teachers, transfers and excursions. Availability, partners, timings and costs will be confirmed as part of the retreat proposal.
Workshops, seminars and retreats centred on mindfulness, yoga, art or learning can use the lodge’s natural setting and selected Palace spaces.
